Determined Garden

Have you ever wondered how things grow? That has been on my mind for months! We have had the coldest, wettest Spring and June that I can remember. Now I am getting older and my memory is not the best anymore but I am going to call this Spring the worst that I can remember! But with all of that against our little garden it is trying its hardest to grow. Peas have blossoms, beans are more than an inch tall which is what they were last week! Beets, onions, garlic, artichoke and lettuce are growing well. Carrots have finally come up and I need to get out there and thin them. Peppers not doing so well.....last year we had so many peppers I was giving them away. I believe I even saw a blossom on a tomatoe plant even though they have not grown much since we put them in the ground a month ago. Rhubarb one of my favorite plants.....it is an amazing thing. Dies back in the Winter, come Spring begins to sprout. Once you protect it from the slimy slugs it is off and running. I think I see a rhubarb pie in Jeff's near future! Boy is he going to be happy!

Onions, Garlic,Artichoke and a little lettuce growing well. We have had a lot of lettuce which is delicious picked fresh from the garden. Corn....well....needs more sun!

This bed could do with a whole boat load of sun!

Peas.....blossoms....will we get pods? Beats doing well!

And here is Rhubarb....amazing. The more you harvest the more it grows. Pie soon!

And finally not a part of the garden but my helpers. Matt and Hayley are impossibel to get pictures of because they never stand still. But this morning they could not believe I was out there at 6 am taking pictures. I think they were confused or maybe just wanted their breakfast!

  1. WOW, mom the garden looks awesome!!! Did you guys do all the planting??

Can I just say Hay-Hay looks like the family, but Matt looks like the step-child. And poor Toni-Bologna behind the fence like a neglected animal.

I am so proud of you guys the garden looks great and isn't wonderful. If I have had a really bad day I always go out and look at my plants and it always makes me feel better!!

  2. Yes....we did all the planting ourselves. Matt looks more like his dad and Toni is not neglected she is being protected along with Maria and Burke. Matt and Hayley were very wild this morning and were running over everyone and everything that got in their way! Then they were intrigues by my picture taking. Then they wanted breakfast!

  3. Your garden looks great and I am also amazed things grow in this weather. I think we will get summer on July 5 like many years in the past! The chipmunks are eating green strawberries...I guess they are desperate for summer food, too!
